STEM challenge will be help on April 11th @ 5pm. Be ready to present your prototype!
Middle school science:
We cover a wide range of content and lab skills during 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Here is a break down of what students learn and the textbooks for each grade level.
6th grade: Water and Atmosphere, Earth's Structure, Ecology
7th grade: Cells and Heredity, Human Biology, Forces and Energy
8th grade: Intro to Chemistry, Astronomy, Diversity of Life

Students work collaboratively in lab groups to design experiments, collect and analyze data, or engineer a solution to a design challenge. Students combine critical thinking, math skills, and literacy to complete research projects, maintain collegial discussions, and better understand our world inside and outside of the classroom. Middle school students mentor younger grades by leading hands-on labs and computer programming activities.
Grading and Homework Policy
District-wide grading policy for science for each trimester:
75% from assessments (quizzes, tests, projects, lab reports)
25% from assignments (current events, home work, textbook problems, class participation)
Homework Policy
All late work must be turned in on Monday of the following week. Students can place their work in the late work bin, which is located next the door on the iPad cart. Students do not need to show me they are turning in late and should not wait for class time in order to place late work in the bin.
Trimester 1: late work turned in on Monday will be graded WITHOUT penalty (You earn full credit)
Trimester 2: late work turned in on Monday will be graded with a 50% penalty (You earn half credit)
Trimester 3: late work turned in on Monday will be graded with a 100% penalty (You earn no credit but I will note in the grade book if the assignment was turned in)
